Cliff’s walks and Rides in and around St Ives

If you’re like me and a nature walk in the great outdoors is something you love, or you want to experience a real wildlife haven on your doorstep then Godmanchester Nature Reserve is an excellent place to visit.

A stone’s throw from St Ives, this reserve that’s part of the Wildlife trust for Beds, Cambs & Northants offers a fantastic array of flora and fauna and a real expanse of lakes and river tributaries to walk around.

During late Autumn and early Winter a trip here can throw up exotic wildlife such as Egyptian Geese, Little and Great White Egrets, and even an Otter or two if you’re lucky. As the lakes swell with visiting wildfowl at this time of year, there is plenty to keep an eye out for and the mature trees around the outskirts hold Treecreepers, Green & Great spotted Woodpeckers and much more. Keep your eyes peeled this Autumn for roving flocks of mixed tits searching the trees and hedgerows for food and flocks of Redwings arriving from the continent to winter here.

A circular walk around the reserve can take up to an hour at a leisurely pace starting at the top end of cow lane. Weaving around the herds of friendly cattle and saying hello to the horses in the adjacent field is always a pleasure too!

Certainly a place to visit and connect with the nature on our doorstep.
